Debra A. Carey, age 53 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, February 12, 2013. She was born on August 5, 1959, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Lewis B. and Geraldine E. Schaefer Taylor. She was married on March 17, 1982, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Patrick Jarrett Carey. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Debbie attended St. Peter School and Helias High School. She was employed with Dek Electro for over 30 years as a photographic printer of driver's licenses and later worked for the License and Verification Bureau for the last several years. Debbie always enjoyed music whether it was listening to her husband play his keyboards, dancing to his band, or keeping beat with her tambourine. In her free time, she spent many hours writing poetry and taking care of her cats. Most importantly, she cherished time with family and friends and always wanted to bring laughter to others. Survivors include: her husband of 30 years, Pat Carey; one daughter, Heather L. Hoerschgen and her husband Scott of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, Gerald W. Taylor and his wife Marsha of Jefferson City, Mo. and Kenneth L. Taylor and his wife Ellen of Holts Summit, Mo.; one sister, Sharon Taylor Cowley and her husband John of Lohman, Mo.; and one granddaughter, Samantha Hoerschgen; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, great-aunts and uncles, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bobby Taylor on July 12, 2006. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2013, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013, at St. Peter Church with the Reverend Gregory Meystrik officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, the American Cancer Society, or Hospice Compassus.
