Phyllis M. Cox, 82, Omaha, Nebraska, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, at her residence. She was born in Booneville, Indiana on February 20, 1930, and grew up in Evansville, attending St. Benedict's Catholic Grade School and Memorial High School. Phyllis worked for St. Mary's Hospital in various capacities and retired from the Billing Department after 30 years of service. Phyllis met Arnold "Bib" Cox through their love of square and round dancing. They married in July of 1972, and enjoyed their family of six daughters and two sons. Family was important to both of them, and they loved canoeing trips and having cookout breakfasts as a family. Phyllis and "Bib" enjoyed 33 years of marriage before his passing in 2005. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska at Easter of 2011, to be with her daughter and son-in-law, Bev and Glenn Houston. Phyllis enjoyed watching Omaha's balloon races and relaxed by crocheting blankets for her grandchildren. Phyllis did not know a stranger and was always willing to help those in need. When times were tough for her, she would find a way to persevere. By her example, she taught all around her the importance of work, friends, family, and faith. Love and thanks to neighbors, Jim and Margaret Devine and Larry and Nancy Sims for their compassion and help during the last few years Phyllis lived in Evansville. Also, thanks to the girls at SIGECO FCU on Franklin Street for their friendship and help. Phyllis lived a life filled with laughter and love, and she will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Deborah Coker Sarber and son, Bill (Pat) Barber of Jefferson City, Mo.; daughter, Donna (Mel) Paul of Wadesville, Ind.; daughters Dara Jean Cox and Denise Cox Sadler of Poseyville, Ind.; daughter, Beverly (Glenn) Barber Houston of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Kay (C.J.) Barber Johnson and son, David Cox of Evansville, Ind.; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; brother, William (Doris) Bell; sister-in-law, Sondra Bel and several nieces and nephews.
