Vincent "Vince" F. Backes, age 84 of Bonnots Mill, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Autumn Meadows Skilled Nursing Facility in Linn. Vince was born December 25, 1928, in Bonnots Mill, a son to the late Leo and Louise (Bescheinen) Backes. Vince attended school in Bonnots Mill. He also served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Rosanna Meamber in Bonnots Mill. She survives at the home. Vince was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 9 Ω years than for the Missouri Department of Corrections as a cook supervisor, where he worked for 33 years, until his retirement in 1989. Vince was a member of St. Louis of France Catholic Church in Bonnots Mill; he was a "Golden Eagle" in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2653 in Jefferson City, and a member of American Legion Post #5 in Jefferson City. Vince enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, camping and traveling. He was an excellent cook and loved to have his family over to eat. Vince was known as a "jack of all trades". There wasn't anything that he couldn't fix. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Rosanna, he is survived by: one daughter, Debbie Jaegers and her husband Leroy of Loose Creek; one son, Daryl and his wife Debbie Backes of Jefferson City; three brothers, William "Bill" and his wife Nancy Backes of Jefferson City, Donald "Donnie" and his wife Jane Backes of Holts Summit, and James "Jim" and his wife Carol Backes of Bonnots Mill; one sister, Bette Pfahl and her husband Edward "Eddie" of Loose Creek; six grandchildren and spouses, Tanya (Kurt) Huber, Derek (Tami) Jaegers, Jennifer (Cory) Brondel, Devin (Mery) Jaegers, LeAnn (Mark) Hoelscher and Justin (Sarah) Backes; 17 great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Chase, Garret and Trenton Huber, Lexi and Lani Jaegers, Reese and Blake Brondel, Noah, Faith, Hope, and Landon Jaegers, Brody and Brylee Hoelscher and Lexi, Asher, and Grayson Backes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Bernice Backes. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, at St. Louis of France Catholic Church in Bonnots Mill with Fr. George Kramer as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Louis of France Parish Cemetery with full military honors. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
