Frances Ann "Annie" Eiken, 86, of Taos, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013, at Westphalia Hills. Annie was born March 6, 1927, at Taos, to Vincent and Adela (Kerperin) Eiken. She attended St. Francis Xavier School and was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. As a young woman, Annie worked at the Jack's Latch and Smiley's cafeterias in Columbia. She was a co-owner and employee of Eiken's Food Store and Hardware at Taos for many years. She was proud of her family's business and thoroughly enjoyed going to work each day and interacting with her many customers. After surviving a second bout with breast cancer in 2000, Annie expressed that she would never decline an invitation to any get-together with family and friends. In July 2011 she retired to Westphalia Hills. Annie embraced life there, enjoying meeting the staff and residents and taking part in the many activities offered. She had a reputation for never missing an activity and particularly enjoyed daily Rosary and Mass, bingo and "rob the table". Annie was a quiet, kind and prayerful woman who always thought of others first. She is survived by brothers: Joe Eiken and wife Pat of Roswell, New Mexico, and Eddie Eiken and wife Mary of Taos; sisters: Sister Francisca (Theresa) Eiken, C.C.V.I. of San Antonio, Texas, Kelly Harden of Wentzville and Susie Eiken, Taos; sister-in-law, Clara Eiken of Taos; 30 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Alfred Eiken, Silver Eiken and Matthew Eiken; sisters: Margaret Forck and husband Paul, Mary Winkelman and husband Clarence and Sister Adela (Edna Mary) Eiken, C.C.V.I.; nephews: Curt Eiken, Patrick Eiken and Gerald Winkelman; nieces: Cheryl Winkelman, Dolores Winkelman, Teri (Eiken) Michaelson and Eileen (Winkelman) Otto. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Wayne Boyer officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic School or for Masses.
