Norma Gene Howard

Mrs. Norma Gene "Genie" Howard, age 91 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at the Golden Living Center. Norma Gene was born December 24, 1921, in Moniteau County, Mo., the daughter of Emmett E. and Dessie J. Phillips Miller. She was married on July 14, 1945, at California, Mo., to Dorsey William Howard, who preceded her in death on October 7, 1969. She attended Parks Grade School and was a 1939 graduate of Eldon High School. She attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1954, she was a member of the First Baptist Church. Norma Gene was a homemaker and had been employed for 30 years with Dallmeyer's Jewelry Store. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, and her many friends. Survivors include: two sons, Roger W. Howard and his wife Irma of Springfield, Mo. and Steven M. Howard and his wife Judy of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Blake Howard of Springfield, Mo., Michelle Hataway and her husband Jackson of Overland Park, Kan., Jason Howard of Jefferson City, Mo., and Elizabeth Howard of Springfield, Mo.; and one brother, Bob Miller of Russellville, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 9, 2013. Private graveside services and interment will be conducted in the Mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Samaritan Center, 1310 East McCarty St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
