Kathleen Patricia Dent, 91, a long time resident of Jefferson City, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at Summit Villa in Holts Summit. She was born April 4, 1922, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Hugh Joseph and Vivian Theresa (Pike) McNally. She lived in Monroe City, Mo. until her marriage to Richard E. Dent Jr. in Dallas, Texas, April 5, 1944. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2005. As an Air Force wife she supported her husband and was a true partner in his military career, as well as the anchor of family life, all while shepherding seven children to many assignments in the United States and overseas tours in Taiwan and Germany. She was a devoted mother who lovingly managed an often chaotic life. Her children learned many life-lessons from her, including her work ethic, dedication to her Catholic faith, and service to others. A talented seamstress, she took pride in making clothes for her family. She made altar cloths and banners for the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Jefferson City, some of which are still in use today. Always a woman in search of a good recipe, she loved providing wonderful meals for her large family; her pies were enjoyed by many over the years. After her children were grown, Kathleen worked in retail at P.N. Hirsch, DÈcor-N-More, Sears, and Dillards. She volunteered at Villa Marie Nursing Home for many years as well as delivering 'meals on wheels' with her husband. Service was an important part of her life. Kathleen leaves behind seven children: Joanne Dent Gleeson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Richard E. Dent III (Betsy), Lafayette, Calif.; Scott F. Dent (Lynn), Overland Park, Kan.; Michele K. Dent, Vienna, Va.; Mary Dent Harrell (Bill), Oakwood, Ohio; William T. Dent (Karen), Holts Summit, Mo.; Brian P. Dent (Jo Ann), Jefferson City, Mo. She has 16 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Vivian "June" McNally Utterback of Pueblo, Colo. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jeanne Amelia in 1946; and a brother, John H. McNally. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Monroe City, Mo. Visitation will be 4:30-6 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 2305 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
