Joan Lee (Joanie) Gerlach, age 68, Kansas City, passed away Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Hospice in Kansas City, Mo. She was born August 4, 1944, in Jefferson City, to Arthur Otto and Zella (Price) Steuber. She attended St. Peters' grade school and Helias High School Joanie lived in Boonville and California, Mo. before moving her family to Sibley, Buckner and Lee's Summit. She was employed with DJ Dunn Construction Co., Kansas City, Mo., United Missouri Bank, Boonville and United Super Grocery in Boonville, Joanie enjoyed spending time with her three sons and their families and working in her flowers. Here hobbies were playing cards, dominos, listening to music, bird watching from her dining room window and feeding them. She was very knowledgeable and could identify all birds. The joy and love of her life was her precious cat "Cookie" who she adopted. She also enjoyed going to her oldest son Bryan's farm for barbecues. (Bryan passed away on October 8, 2012). She enjoyed diet Coke and always had a big cup in her hand. She is survived by her two sons, Steve (wife Kim) Gerlach of Boonville, Mo. and Jon Gerlach of Lee's Summit, Mo.; grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Josh, Jeremy, Chelsey, Sam and Abby; two sisters, Dorothy Clark, Jefferson City and Lucille Schrimpf (husband Bill) of Kimberling City, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her son, Bryan Gerlach; sister, Shirley Hall and husband Jim, Marie Kirsch and husband Ted, brother, Virgil Steuber; brother-in-law, Cecil E. Clark and nephew, David Kliethermes. A celebration of life will be held at the Eagles Lodge in Boonville at a later date.
