Esther Clawson

Esther Clawson, of Eldon, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, in the Adams Street Care Center in Jefferson City. She was born December 12, 1915, in her home outside of Palisade, Nebraska to Martin V. Price (deceased) and Bertha (Ruettimann) Price (deceased). She was united in marriage to Oran Dean Clawson on June 10, 1943 in Oberlin, Kansas. Dean preceded her in death November 14, 1968. There were two daughters from this union. Esther graduated from Palisade High School in Palisade, Neb. She then went to Kearney State Teachers College and obtained her teaching certificate. She taught for several years before she married Dean. She was a war bride and followed Dean to California before he shipped off for the South Pacific. While in California, she held the job as a police woman at the North American Aircraft Factory. After the war, Dean and Esther and Dean's sister Garnett Scott and husband Howard came to Eldon, and created a partnership and purchased a bottled gas business. This business became the Eldon Skelgas and remained this until Dean's death and then it became Scott Gas. Dean was also a butcher and Dean and Esther started the Eldon Grocery and feed store. Esther ran the grocery store until they sold in the early 60's. Esther enjoyed her grandchildren and her place on the Lake of the Ozarks. Some of the family's favorite memories were at the "cabin". Esther loved to play the piano and entertained many with her music and performed musical readings at a various organizations and clubs. Esther had been an active member of the First Christian Church helping with Sunday School, CWF and other positions. She was an avid quilter. She is a lifetime member (over 50 years) of the Order of the Eastern Star and is currently a member of Victory Chapter #14 in Jefferson City. She belonged to Past Patrons and Matrons, Rebekahs, served as State Musician, Evening Euterpeans, served as Mother Advisor for the Order of Rainbow Girls, was active with the Miller County Historical Society, and many other clubs and organizations. Survivors include: daughter, Geniece G. Tyler and husband J. David Tyler of Osage Beach, grandson, Chad D. Tyler of Boston, Mass., grandson, Jaret D. Tyler and wife Kelly (Hoskins) of Columbus, Ohio, great-grandson, Dean Alexander Tyler, granddaughter, Lindsey L. Tyler of Columbia; daughter, Lynnette L. Busch and husband Ronald W. Busch of Jefferson City, grandson Marcus J. Busch and wife Christina (Smith) of Jefferson City, great-grandsons, Isaac J. Busch and Dawson W. Busch, a sister, Zora Izona (Price) Sailors (101) - Trenton, Neb., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jacqueline Rainell Busch on July 31, 1989; and two sisters, Zella Izetta (Price) Kerchal and Deliphene (Price) Downing. Visitation will be on Tuesday April 23, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Eldon with Rev. Shirley Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldon City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Eldon or Hospice Compassus. Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon.
