Louis Mathis "Lee" Wieberg, 80, of Argyle, departed this life on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at his residence. Lee had been in failing health for some time. Lee was born on November 12, 1932, near Argyle, in Maries County, a son of Louis Joseph and Gertrude Frances (Eichholz) Wieberg. Lee was united in marriage on April 25, 1959, at St. Martin's, to the former Miss Mary Louise "Lou" Benne, and to this union, six children were born. Lee was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, where he faithfully rang the church bells for many years and was a member of the St. Aloysius Cemetery Board. He was a member of the Argyle Knights of Columbus Council No. 2047 and had served as Grand Knight; a member of the Argyle Town Board for nine years and had served as Mayor, a member and past president of the Fatima R-3 School Board, Westphalia; and had served as treasurer of the Argyle Ballpark Association. On February 7, 1952, at St. Louis, Lee entered into active federal service in the United States Air Force and served until February 6, 1956, when he was honorably discharged at Whiteman Air Force Base near Sedalia. Prior to his discharge, he had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, had been stationed overseas in England for three years, and had been awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. A man of excellent character, his "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country. Lee had been employed with the Missouri Department of Transportation at the Vienna Highway Maintenance Facility for 36 years retiring in 1994 as the mowing crew leader as well as being a life-long farmer in Maries County. Those left to mourn the passing of Lee include: his wife, Mary Lou Wieberg of the home in Argyle; five sons, Ron Wieberg, Springfield, Steve Wieberg (Carol), Lake St. Louis, Mark "Sparky" Wieberg (Leigh Ann), Jason Wieberg (Leslie), and Joey Wieberg (Vickie), all of Jefferson City; one daughter, Renee Hentges (Jo), Centertown; eight grandchildren, Adam, Sam, Morgan, Sydney, Mathias, Madison, Landon, and Brett Wieberg, and another granddaughter anticipated in July of 2013; three sisters, Dorothy Massman, Westphalia, Zita Tappel, Koeltztown, and Freda Kampeter, Vienna; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father on October 3, 1957; his mother on September 9, 1989; three brothers, Leonard Wieberg on July 24, 1919, Roman Wieberg on April 5, 1979, and Tobias "Toby" Wieberg on December 12, 1996; and two sisters, Alma Dette on August 11, 1986, and Mary Stratman on May 8, 2001. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Wieberg at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013, in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz celebrating. Interment with full military honors will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Argyle, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Visitation for Mr. Wieberg will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2013, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz leading in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013, in the funeral home. The family of Mr. Wieberg suggest memorials per the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
