Edgar William Sundermeyer

Edgar William Sundermeyer, 96, of Washington D.C., passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at his home. He was born November 12, 1916, in Chamois, Missouri, the son of the late Frederick and Bertha (Pahmeier) Sundermeyer. He was united in marriage in 1939, in Chamois to Ruth Shobe, who preceded him in death. Edgar was a 1934 graduate of Osage County R-1 Chamois and was a 1938 graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia, School of Agriculture. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1941-1945 during World War II. He was employed with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Seed Branch from 1946-1976, and then with Farmland Industries from 1977-1981. Edgar was an elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and member of its church choir in Kansas City, Mo. He was also a member and church choir member of Presbyterian churches in Raytown, Mo., Montgomery, Ala., Beltsville, Md., and Lee's Summit, Mo. Edgar was a long-time officer of the Kansas City chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He also was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 363, Kansas City, Mo., and a coach in Raytown, Mo. for Little League Baseball. Survivors include one son, Michael S. Sundermeyer of Washington, D.C., and two grandchildren, Kim and Mark Sundermeyer. He was preceded in death by one sister, Leona Hoffman, and one brother, Robert Sundermeyer. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at the St. Johns United Church of Christ, Chamois. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Husted officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Chamois. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Johns United Church of Christ.
