Girard Paul Karst, 62, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born March 17, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Harold Phillip and Monta (Pinegar) Karst. He was a 1969 graduate of Helias High School. Girard also attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City and Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis. Girard worked in sales for KWOS and other local radio stations from 1987 to 2001. He worked for Missouri Vocational Enterprises from 2005 until his retirement in 2012. Girard played music professionally for 23 years, playing in Moonshadow Band and several other local bands. He was a member of the Jefferson City Evening Lions, Cosmopolitan Club and Helias Athletic Booster Club, where he served as president twice. Girard enjoyed playing golf, fishing, landscaping, preparing for family barbecues and doing a little pickin' during jam sessions with his friends. He loved spending time with family and friends. Girard will certainly be remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest. On May 11, 1974, Girard was united in marriage in Jefferson City to Carolyn Muessig, who survives at their home. Other survivors include four children: Gina Ammons and husband Joe of Jefferson City, Chad Karst and wife Melissa of Westphalia, Todd Karst and wife Alicia of Jefferson City, Abby Yingling and husband Jimmy of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren: Kyser, Carter, Natalie, Amara, Corinn, Nick, Paxton; and one sister, Lesa Leigers and husband David of Jefferson City. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Msgr. David D. Cox officiating. Private family interment will be held.
