Gladys K. (Rackers) Stringer, 88, a longtime resident of Wichita, Kan., died on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Mrs. Stringer was born on June 15, 1924, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Homer E. and Barbara (Hettinger) Carico. In 1930 after her parents' deaths, she and her sister were adopted by Albert and Hilda (Bosch) Rackers. Mrs. Stringer graduated from St. Peter's High School (1942) in Jefferson City. She married George I. Stringer Sr. in 1946 and they moved to Wichita in 1953. She was an Avon Sales Representative for nearly 30 years. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Robinson of Jefferson City; her son, John Stringer (Kim); her son-in-law, Mike Metz, all of Wichita, Kan.; her daughter, Beverly Utermoehlen (Clifford) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Stringer was preceded in death by her husband; her son, George Stringer Jr.; a daughter, Rebecca Metz; her parents; and her sister, Mary (Rackers) Thompson. Memorials are suggested to Christ the King Catholic School Memorial, 4501 W. Maple, Wichita, KS 67209 and Voyages Adult Day Care, 1460 Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, CO 80907. The Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 10 and services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 11, both at Christ the King Catholic Church.
