Wayne E. Sanders, 94, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Heisinger Bluffs. He was born December 10, 1918, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of the late George and Florine (Fowler) Sanders. He was united in marriage to Jane E. Weise for 49 years, who preceded him in death. Wayne graduated from Spencer High School and attended Estherville Junior College in Estherville, Iowa. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II, serving as chief petty officer in the European, African, and Pacific theaters. Wayne retired from the Unites States Fish and Wildlife Service where he was the agent in charge of law enforcement for the State of Missouri from 1963 to 1971, and for the New England Region from 1971 to 1976. Wayne was one of the most well-known antique collectors in the Midwest. He had one of the largest antique marble collections in the United States. He also collected antique toys, Native American artifacts, duck decoys and cobalt glass. His pride and joy was his 1951 Ford Woody Station Wagon which he purchased new. Wayne was also a member of the Mid-Missouri Old Car Club and National Marble Collectors. Survivors include three sons: Wayne Sanders-Unrein (Barbara) of Vernon Hills, Illinois, Timothy Sanders (Carol) of Washington, D.C. and David Sanders of Osage Beach, Missouri; one brother: Robert Sanders of Phoenix, Arizona; seven grandchildren: Adrienne, Paul, Mark, Matt, Elizabeth, Alison and Katie; and one great-grandchild: Evelynn. He was preceded in death by one son: Ridgely Sanders. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Houser Millard Funeral Home.
