Alton Dale Wallace, age 80, of Jefferson City, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 18, 1932, in Whiteflat, Texas, the son of Arnold William and Veva Mae (Humphries) Wallace. He was united in marriage on August 3, 1953, to Wanda Jean Edwards, who survives at the home. Alton attended Crosbyton Texas Grade School through the sixth grade. He was a 1948 graduate of Crosbyton High School, Crosbyton, Texas, and a 1952 graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, Texas. He owned Wallace Dry Goods in Crosbyton and Petersburg, Texas from 1952 to 1964. He owned and operated a family farm in Stover, Missouri from 1964 to 1992, and was employed with the Department of Corrections, and retired in 1991 from the Rehabilitation Services for the Blind. Alton was an avid golfer, adult Sunday school teacher for the Assembly of God Church, volunteer firefighter, member of the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce, little league baseball director and cub scout director. He is survived by his wife, Jean; three children, Michael Scott Wallace and his wife Donna, along with their children: Amanda and Alex; Patricia Kay Squires, along with her children: Jesse, Leah, and Amy; and Steven Ed Wallace and his wife Trish, along with their children: Jeff, Megan and Tim; one brother-in-law: Jerome Edwards and his wife Judy of Austin, Texas; five beloved nieces: Jan, Ginger, Margie, Deborah, and Deanna; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Orval Wallace. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at the Calvary Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jeff Higby officiating. Burial will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
