Marla Ann (Volmert) Harris, 53, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born November 6, 1958, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to Leander "Curly" and Viola Loethen Volmert. She was united in marriage to Gary Harris on October 16, 1982, who survives of the home. Marla was a 1977 graduate of Helias High School in Jefferson City. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. Mrs. Harris was a registered nurse in the cardiac rehab unit at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. Marla was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sedalia. She was passionate about helping others, which was visible through her work as a nurse. Her most cherished moments were spending time with her family and friends. Marla is survived by three children: Tyler Harris and Megan Harris of Columbia, Missouri, and Cameron Harris of the home; her mother: Viola Volmert of Jefferson City; four siblings: Brenda Wilson of Jefferson City, Paula Wilbers (husband John) of Wardsville, Missouri, Gary Volmert (wife Jeanene) of Clever, Missouri, and Russell Volmert (wife Barbara) of Washington, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father: Leander Volmert. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 5, at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City. A private family burial will occur at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery in Jefferson City. Memorial contributions are suggested to Camp Kesem, a summer camp for children whose parents have or had cancer, in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
