Mr. Lawrence E. Markway, age 82 years, of Wardsville, Mo., passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital, Columbia, Mo. He was born on November 28, 1929 in Wardsville, Mo., a son of Fred and Leona Prenger Markway. He was married on November 27, 1952 in Jefferson City, Mo., to Pauline H. Englert. Lawrence served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a crop farmer in Callaway and Cole Counties his entire life until a stroke in 1993 forced his retirement. Survivors include: his wife of almost 60 years, Pauline Markway; two sons, Phillip Markway and his wife Vanessa of Wardsville, and Jeff Markway and his wife Jennifer of Holts Summit, Mo.; one sister, Lillian Veit of Wardsville, Mo.; four brothers, Harold Markway and his wife Mary of Jefferson City, Mo., Charles Markway of Wardsville, Mo., William Markway and his wife Alice of Westphalia, Mo., and Fred Markway and his wife Joann of Jefferson City, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Amber Markway, Curtis Markway, Anna Markway, Benjamin Markway and Catherine Markway. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 2, 2012, with a prayer service to be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Freeman Chapel. Committal services and entombment with military honors will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 3, 2012, at the Mausoleum of St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Wardsville, Mo., with the Reverend I.C.
