James Lee Block, 87, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, October 27, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born on May 11, 1925, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Victor Herbert and Mayme Augusta (Caspari) Block. He was married on October 2, 1948, in Jefferson City to Elenora Anna Kiesling, who survives at the home. Mr. Block received his education at St. Peter Catholic School. He was employed with the News Tribune Publishing Company for 28 years, retiring in 1994. He also was employed with KRCG-TV for seventeen years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving with a construction battalion on Guam in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph and greatly enjoyed camping, trout fishing, square dancing, and card playing. Other survivors include 10 children, Mike (Pam) Block, Bartlett, Tenn.; Ron (Noy) Block, Austin, Texas; Donna (Bob) Crow, Holts Summit, Mo.; Dennis (Ruth) Block, Loose Creek, Mo.; and Janice (Tom) Pirner, Jeannette (Kenny) English, Greg Block, Doug (Leah) Block, and Teresa (James) Calvin, all of Jefferson City; and Amy (Sean) Morrison, O'Fallon, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchild; four step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard (Ann) Block, Jefferson City; and Victor (Vernita) Block, St. Elizabeth, Mo. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Melissa Kay Block and Tad Komaromi; one great-grandson, Dylan Pirner; and one brother, Bob Block. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4:30-7 on Tuesday, October 30th, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph with a prayer service at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Cathedral Building Fund, 2305 W.
