Verda Ladene Hamilton

Verda Ladene Hamilton, 92, formerly of Latham, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Frene Valley Healthcare South in Owensville. She was born one of 11 children on May 21, 1920, in Rich Hill, the daughter of John and Alice (Moyer) Lee, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married on August 4, 1941, in Reno, Nev., to James H. Hamilton, who preceded her in death on July 3, 1961. She worked at the turkey plant in California, then owned by Ralston Purina; later she worked at Cheeseborough Ponds in Jefferson City, California Woolen Mill, and Stride Rite Shoes Factory in Tipton until a heart attack forced her retirement. Verda lived in the Latham area from 1955 to 2007. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and children and would babysit local children in her home after she retired. She is survived by two sons, Robert Terry Hamilton and wife Donna of Latham, and Howard G. (Jerry) Hamilton and wife Carol of Bland; three grandsons, Gary L. Hamilton and wife Monica of California, James D. Hamilton and wife Jennifer of Columbia, and Kurtis H. Schlottog and wife Rachel of Bland; one granddaughter, Cara Newton and husband Josh of Belle; three great-granddaughters, Elizabeth (Ellie) R. and Rebecca (Becca) L. Hamilton, both of California and Annistyn Marie Newton; two great-grandsons, Jancen C. Schlottog of Bland, and Layne H. Newton of Belle; two sisters, Wanda Morris of Kansas City, Kan., and Betty Morrell and husband Lowell of Ozawkie, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one infant son, John Gary Hamilton in 1955; four sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services. Burial will be in Latham Cemetery. Officiating will be Walter Wood Jr. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services. Memorials are suggested to choice of the donor.
