Celia Snellen

Mrs. Celia Snellen, age 65 years, of Columbia, Mo., died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Columbia Health Care Center. Celia was born June 10, 1947, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Walter D. and Jean A. Ricker Dickson. She was married on May 29, 1971, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Roger Guy Snellen. A life-long resident of the Central Missouri area, Celia was a 1965 graduate of Jefferson City High School and a 1969 graduate of Lincoln University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Celia was employed as an elementary teacher in New Bloomfield, Mo. and St. Marys, Kansas. She was also a substitute teacher in the Columbia Public Schools. Later, she operated a day care center in her home. In her younger years, Celia was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Jefferson City and was currently a member of Community Methodist Church in Columbia. Celia enjoyed crafts and reading, but most importantly, spending time with her family. Survivors include: her husband of 41 years, Roger Guy Snellen; three sisters, Emily Luker and her husband Dale of Rocheport, Mo., Rita Schulte and her husband David of Centertown, Mo., and Jo Ciolli and her husband Ted of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Jim Dickson and his wife Lurinda of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven nephews; four nieces; three great-nephews, and two great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Guy and Opal Snellen. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Mark Towns officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at the Elston Cemetery, Elston, Mo. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Children's Hospital, which is a part of University of Missouri Healthcare.
