Anthony "Bill" Grellner, age 75, of Freeburg, departed this life Sunday, October 7, 2012, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Bill had been in failing health for some time. He was born on November 20, 1936, at Rich Fountain, a son of Henry Joseph and Anna Marie (Bauer) Grellner. Bill was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg; a member of the Msgr. Gerald J. Kaiser Knights of Columbus Council No. 9700, Freeburg; and a United States Army veteran. He was a lifelong farmer in Osage County. Bill enjoyed fishing, gigging, and fish frys with friends as well as bowling, coon hunting, playing spades and three handed pitch. He cared deeply for his nephews and nieces and always remembered their birthdates. Bill had a deep faith and prayed his rosary daily. Those left to mourn the passing of Bill include: three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Joseph and Mabel Grellner, Owensville, Thomas and Elsie Grellner, Rich Fountain, and Edward Grellner, Freeburg; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Helen Rudroff, Rich Fountain, Ann and August Wibberg, Linn, Christine and Ben Fick, Rich Fountain, Betty Stegeman, Meta, Joan and Celsus Stegeman, Folk, and Cathy and Harry Bernskoetter, Taos; nephews; nieces; great-nephews; great-nieces; and other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his father on January 6, 1975; his mother on October 13, 1979; an infant brother, Paul Grellner (twin brother to Joan Stegeman) in 1939; an infant sister, Margaret Grellner in 1926; two brothers-in-law, Albert Rudroff and Leroy Stegeman; and two nephews. Our family chain has been broken but one day will be whole again. We didn't want to lose Bill so soon in life, but know that going home with the Lord, he is free from suffering and pain. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2012, with a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary service all in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. Visitation will also be held from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2012, in the church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Bill at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2012, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with the Rev. Phil Niekamp celebrating. Interment with full military honors will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
