Leon Robert Barger, 77, of Urbana, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at home. Mr. Barger was born on September 9, 1935, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of Edgar Gilbert and Hattie Bosch Barger. He married Patsy Lou Lane on January 31, 1959, in Champaign, she died on January 6, 1979. Mr. Barger was a pipe fitter at the University of Illinois. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, where he served as a sheet metal worker. Mr. Barger attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Urbana, lifetime member VFW Post 630, Urbana, lifetime member of American Legion Post 71, Urbana, Past President of the Lions Club, 50 plus year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 149 in Champaign. Survivors include one son, David W. Barger and his wife Johnna of Champaign; one daughter, Christi S. Barger-Mayer and her husband Don of Clifton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, Rev. Fr. Joseph Hogan will officiate. Entombment will be in Mt. Hope Mausoleum, in Champaign. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 71 of Urbana.
