Vincent Paul Eggen

Vincent Paul Eggen, age 92, of St. Martins, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at Oak Tree Villa in Jefferson City. He was born May 3, 1920, in Jefferson City, a son of Henry and Anna Hentges Eggen. On November 22, 1947, at the St. Martin Catholic Church, Vincent was united in marriage to Edna Ihler, who preceded him in death July 20, 2009. He began his career as an office equipment technician, working for various office supply companies located in the Mid-Missouri area. His knowledge of office equipment led him to begin his own company, Eggen Office Equipment in Jefferson City, which he owned and operated with his wife for more than 27 years. In 1985 he retired and sold the business to his son. However, not a day went by that he did not stop by the store where the coffee pot was always on and old friends would gather to visit. He was a longtime, faithful member of St. Martin Catholic Church. Vincent loved to build and race go-carts. He also enjoyed working in his large garden and was proud of the potatoes he grew. From the bounty of his garden he was able to provide much of the produce for the annual picnic at the St. Martin Catholic Church. For the past 10 to 15 years he looked forward to the trips to the farm with his son-in-law. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family and spoiling his grandchildren. Survivors include two children and their spouses, Jane and David Morff of St. Martins and Jim and Lori Eggen of Jefferson City; four grandchildren, Jennifer Green and husband Brian, Mark Morff and girlfriend Dana Bise, Kristen Eggen and Kyle Eggen; one great-granddaughter, Megan Green; along with other relatives and many friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Bernard Eggen, Lawrence Eggen and an infant brother. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 8, at St. Martin Catholic Church with Father Ed Schmidt officiating. Interment will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, October 7, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the visitation following from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Martin Catholic Church Building Fund or SSM Hospice.
