Rodney Joseph Stokes

Rodney Joseph Stokes, 56, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, November 18, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born June 27, 1956, the son of Richard R. and Betty Ann (Buehrle) Stokes. Rodney was employed with Capitol Project's (Sheltered Workshop) for 39 years. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. As a member of the Special Olympics Bowling team he participated in the 1984 International Team. Rodney also played on the Special Olympics Basketball Team. He was an avid collector of basketball and baseball cards and a huge fan of the Missouri Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed all types of music and watching old westerns. Survivors include his mother, Betty Ann Stokes of Jefferson City; seven siblings, Rick Stokes (wife Deborah), Janice Sneller (husband Paul), Greg Stokes (wife Cindy), Mary Lynn Brondel (husband Jim), Cheryl Heet (husband Rick), Randy Stokes (wife Leigh Ann), and Lori Stokes all of Jefferson City and a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Stokes and one brother and sister in law, Charles "Chuck" and Sharon Stokes. Friends will be received from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Special Olympics "Basketball or Bowling teams," Capitol Projects, United Way or the charity of the donor's choice.
