Raymond Jean Spencer, 89, of Eldon, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012, at the Eldon Nursing and Rehab in Eldon. On July 23, 1923, he was born in Eugene, the son of the late William E. and Maggie Abigail (Crane) Spencer. On April 24, 1946, in Mary's Home, he was united in marriage to Freda Marie (Schulte) Spencer, who survives of the home. Raymond was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldon, the Knights of Columbus Council #7133 of Eldon, the Eldon VFW Post #2442, the American Legion and the Eagles Club of Jefferson City. He was a lead guitar player for various bands including the Valley Ranch Boys, Sweetwater, and Just Us. Survivors include: his wife, Freda Spencer, of the home; children, Ron Spencer of Birmingham, Mich., Larry and Lesli Spencer of Jefferson City, Betty and James McDowell of Eldon, and Karen Spencer of Lake Ozark; five grandchildren, Geoff Spencer, Kadi Hood, Jake Spencer, Russ McDowell, Brad McDowell; four great-grandchildren, Parker Spencer, Emma Hood, Georgia Spencer, and Colt McDowell. He was preceded in death by five siblings, Walter and Bill Spencer, Dorothy and Mariette Eiken, and Lela Schulte. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eldon, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eldon with Msgr. Donald W. Lammers officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldon City Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Eldon VFW Post #2442 of Eldon. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eldon or the Eldon VFW Post #2442. Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon.
