Floyd W. Oberkrom

Floyd W. Oberkrom, 86, of Monticello, Ind., died Sunday, November 11, 2012, at IU Arnett Hospital of Lafaytte. He was born March 25, 1926, in Linn, Mo., to the late Lee and Leona (Pinet) Oberkrom. He married the former Delpha Weislocher, June 27, 1949, in Linn, Mo., and she resides in Monticello. He graduated high school in Linn, Mo. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII and was awarded a Purple Heart. He retired as the plant superintendent of the Yeoman Telephone Company after 33 years of service. He was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans where he had served as commander. He was a life member of the VFW, and also of the American Legion in Delphi. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Monticello and had served as governor in addition to other capacities. He enjoyed building bird houses, motorcycle riding, golf, fishing, and being on the water. He coached and umpired little league baseball when the children were young. He is also survived by a daughter, Diana (Randall) Bair of Mims, Fla.; 5 sons, Dennis (Janet) Oberkrom of Avon, Larry (Jane) Oberkrom of Peru, Lynn (Barbie) Oberkrom of Atlanta, Ga., Scott (Lou Ann) Oberkrom of Delphi, Steven Oberkrom of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; 2 brothers, Kenneth Oberkrom, Kan., Harold (Louise) Oberkrom of Springfield, Mo.; 4 sisters, Irma Hunter of Independence, Mo., Gertrude (Richard) Johnson, S.C., Edna of Gladstone, Mo., Leona Singleton of Oklahoma City, Okla. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Glenn Oberkrom; sisters, Juanita Peoples, Nadine Pardoe, and infant sister. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. A Moose service will be at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home with Rev. Don Haase officiating. Burial will follow in Yeoman Cemetery with full military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to IU Hospice of Lafayette, Oak Grove Christian Church, P.O.
