Harry Kenneth Neal, 81, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Thursday, May 17, at his home surrounded by family. Mr. Neal was born March 24, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the son of the late S.P. and Ora Neal. In 1986, Harry retired as a Colonel from the Missouri National Guard; among many of his achievements, he was most proud of his success with the Officer Candidate School which became ranked as a top school in the nation under his command. Outside of work, Harry was a dedicated Cardinal Fan, known for his outstanding BBQ, a relentless pinochle player, loved spending time with his family and planning trips to Florida for the grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, Greg (Paula), David, Derek (Dani); daughter, Amy (Thurman) and grandchildren, Jacob, Dylan, Kaitlyn, and Kayla. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 1, at 11 a.m., at Union Hill Baptist Church, 460 South Summit Drive, Holts Summit, Mo. A lunch will follow the service at Union Hill before proceeding to Hawthorn Memorial Gardens for graveside service with military honors at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to The Fallen & Wounded Soldiers Fund, www.FWSF.org.
