Clara Schanzmeyer

Clara Dora Mary (Jaegers) Schanzmeyer, 82 of Westphalia, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. She was born November 9, 1929, in Meta, the daughter of the late John and Condradina (Porting) Jaegers. On July 3, 1948, she was united in marriage to August Frank Schanzmeyer Jr., who preceded her in death on March 7, 2008. Clara attended high school at the St. Mary's Convent of the Precious Blood in O'Fallon, Missouri. Clara was a homemaker most of her life. Clara and August were members of St. Boniface parish and together raised 13 children on their farm in Koeltztown. She worked at the Meta Uniform factory and later as a home health aid caring for others in the community. Clara enjoyed making quilts, most of which she gave away to her children and grandchildren. She also loved to travel with her family and tend to her flower gardens. She will always be remembered for her gentle ways, compassion and deep devotion to her Savior and His Blessed Mother. She is survived by a sister, Florentine Rosa and a brother, Ray Jaegers, both of St. Louis; 12 children, Irene Rehagen (Frank), Gene Schanzmeyer (Brenda), Mark Schanzmeyer (Sandy), Leon Schanzmeyer (Janice), Michael Schanzmeyer (Freda), Donna Luebbert, Steven Schanzmeyer (Rita), Gary Schanzmeyer (Darlene), Debbie Kempker (Donnie), Susan Mederios (Joe), Amie Peters (Kevin), Kevin Schanzmeyer (Elizabeth); 36 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene August; a daughter, Karen Schanzmeyer; and grandchildren, Clayton Schanzmeyer and McKenna Peters. Friends will be received from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Westphalia, where a prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown, with Fr. David J. Maher officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Expression of sympathy may be made to a charity of the family's choice.
