Katie Lee Jones Barnes, 68, of Jefferson City, passed away, Friday, March 23, 2012, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born April 10, 1943, in Lambert, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Robert and Ethel L. (Ware) Jones. Katie was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School in Caruthersville, Missouri and then attended Lincoln University. She was employed with Caruthersville Housing Authority from 1975 to 1983, and then with the Missouri House of Representatives from 1983 to 2008, where she retired as a Legislative Assistant. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Vernon Choir, Mount Vernon Missionary Society and Mother Board. Katie enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Katie opened her heart and home to countless family and friends. She was selfless in giving her time, love, and support to all she encountered. Katie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took pride and joy in her family. She is survived by four sons: Sterling Dawson (wife Debra) of Canton, Mississippi, Roosevelt Dawson of Jefferson City, Keith Dawson (wife LaFaye) of Lee's Summit and Chris Dawson (wife Brianne) of Overland Park, Kansas; three daughters: Debra Jones of Jefferson City, Latrecia Kea-Onunkwor (husband Daniel) of Jefferson City and Mary Key (husband Michael) of Florissant; two brothers: John Alfred Jones of Chicago, Illinois and Charles Jones of Wetumpka, Alabama; one sister: Isabel Orr (husband Thomas) of Chicago, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Roosevelt Jones, Robert Jones Jr. and Hercules Jones and one sister Ida Mae Logan Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon with the Rev. Gordon Coleman. Interment will follow Mount Vernon Cemetery.
