Max Duane Howard, 79, of Centertown, died on Friday, March 16, 2012, at his residence in Centertown, Mo. He was born on March 26, 1932, in Bado, Mo., the son of William W. and Marion C. (Wendt) Howard, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on December 20, 1953, at Clara, Mo., to Sippie Georgina Amick who survives of the home. Mr. Howard was a United States Navy veteran. He was a 1949 graduate of Cabool High School and a graduate of Southwest Missouri State University. He was a member of the Centertown Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon but at the time of his passing he was a member of the First Baptist Church, Jefferson City, and a member of NARFE. Mr. Howard enjoyed reading, playing solitaire and Skipbo, fast food, and flying which prompted him to get his pilot's license. He is survived by one daughter, Virginia L. Yacko and her husband David, Rocky Point, New York; two brothers, A.W. Howard, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Carl Howard, Atlanta, Texas; two grandchildren, Jonathan Yacko, Rocky Point, New York; and Amanda Pouyat, Charleston, South Carolina; one great-granddaughter, Sandra Paige Pouyat. He is preceded in death by one son, Steven Max Howard, three sisters, and one brother. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Jefferson City. Officiating will be Dr. Doyle Sager. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Jefferson City. Memorials are suggested to the Samaritan Center of Jefferson City, 1310 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, MO.
