Betty J. Ferguson, 84, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Oak Tree Villa in Jefferson City. Betty J. Ferguson was born in Owensville, Mo., on January 11, 1928, a daughter to the late Cyrus and Alpha (Kindred) Shockley. On August 6, 1945, she was united in marriage to Milford Phelps in Union, Mo. Milford Phelps passed away January 23, 1977. On November 1, 1980, Betty married Denver R. Ferguson in St. James, Mo. Denver Ferguson passed away on November 2, 2001. Betty was a Medicare case worker for the state of Missouri. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Jefferson City. She is survived by her daughters, Connie Jean Davies of Union, Mo. and Pamela Lane Nield and husband, Martin of England; her step-children, Nancy Douglas and husband, Bob of Jefferson City and Stuart Ferguson; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cyrus and Alpha (Kindred) Shockley; her first husband, Milford Phelps; her second husband, Denver R. Ferguson; and one brother, Billy Shockley. Funeral services for Betty J. Ferguson will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, Mo. Burial will be in the Owensille City Cemetery in Owensville, Mo. Visitation will be Friday, March 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gottenstroeter Funeral Home of Owensville.
