Mr. Donald R. Gilpin, age 67 years, of Holts Summit, Mo., died Monday, March 12, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. Don was born January 30, 1945, in Lincoln, Neb., the son of Raymond and Elizabeth Hess Gilpin. He was married on July 2, 1977, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Karin L. Lavallee. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Don attended Trinity Lutheran School. He served in the United States Army 101 Airborne, "Screaming Eagles" Division, during the Vietnam conflict. Don was employed with Jefferson City Manufacturing for several years until his retirement in 2007. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5. Don enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, but most importantly, spending time with his family. Survivors include: his wife of 34 years, Karin Gilpin; six daughters, Luana Harrison, Andrea Call and her husband Lance, Kim Tunis and her husband Dan, Alayna Hoffmann, Stacia Shoults and her husband Brian, and Shawna Lenz and her husband Cory; two brothers, Richard Gilpin and his wife Delores and Steve Gilpin; one sister, Vicki Landers and her husband Danny; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Cardwell. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 17. 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Walter Gilpin officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
