Robert E. Bregant

Dr. Robert E. Bregant, age 79 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Friday, March 9, 2012. Dr. Bregant was born on October 10, 1932, in Witt, Ill., a son of Jacob and Marie Janzekovich Bregant. He was married on October 15, 1955, in St. Louis, Mo., to Barbara Ann Steele. He graduated from Desoto High School in Desoto, Mo. and received a bachelor's degree from Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo. After his undergraduate studies, he graduated from St. Louis University's School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Mo. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1953 until 1955. A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1963, Dr. Bregant was a founding partner of Sanders & Bregant, which later became Capital City Medical Associates. He was also on the staff at Capital Region Medical Center and St. Mary's Health Center. He practiced internal medicine from 1963 until his retirement in 2001. He was a fellow with the American College of Physicians, a member of the Missouri State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the Cole County Medical Society. He was also involved in Missouri statewide medical policy and received multiple recognitions from his peers. Dr. Bregant was an avid traveler and cherished time spent traveling with his wife, family, and friends. He enjoyed Mizzou athletics, gardening, and was known for his great sense of humor. Survivors include: his wife of 56 years, Barbara Bregant; one son, Robert Bregant Jr. and his wife Lisa of Overland Park, Kan.; his daughter, Susan Jean Raaz of Jefferson City, Mo. and Jeff Raaz of Columbia, Mo.; four grandchildren, Joshua Raaz, Jeremy Raaz, Analisa Bregant, and Elisabeth Bregant; two sisters-in-law, Sue Hill of San Antonio, Texas and Tassanee Bregant of St. Peter, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edmund Bregant and Gary Bregant. Following Dr. Bregant's wishes, a private celebration of life will be conducted at Freeman Mortuary. Private graveside services and entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City or Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo.
