Shirley Blevins

Shirley A. Blevins, 79, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Adams Street Place. She was born November 26, 1932, in Braymer, a daughter of the late Wayne and Florence (White) Riggins. She was a graduate of Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, and went on to earn her Associate degree in Liberal Arts from Christian College in Columbia. On December 26, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage in Columbia, to Bill R. Blevins, who preceded her in death on August 23, 1984. Shirley worked for Capital Reserve Life Insurance Company for many years, where she retired as an Underwriter. She volunteered for many years at Capital Region Medical Center and also volunteered for Meals On Wheels for 25 years. Shirley enjoyed traveling, reading, painting, playing cards with her friends, and most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by one son: Mark Blevins (wife Robin) of Jefferson City; one daughter: Patricia Gooseman (husband Steven) of Higginsville; one sister: Carol Fausett (husband Jim) of Coralville, Iowa; three grandchildren: Shawn Burton, Samantha Blevins, Dallas Gooseman; and three great-grandchildren: Taya Burton, Trey Burton and Tyler Burton. Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Private interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Wolfner Library, 600 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
