Ernest Powell

Ernest Gayle Powell, 90, formerly of California, Mo., passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Ashland Villa in Ashland, Mo. He was born in Marion, Mo., on January 18, 1922, the son of Earl Powell and Lillian Baushausen Powell. He was married January 21, 1945, in Lohman, Mo. to Ruth A. Raithel. Mr. Powell was a graduate of Centertown High School. He served in the Air Force in World War II. He was a farmer in the Shiloh Community in Moniteau County as well as working as a tool and die maker for McGraw Edison and Shop Smith in Jefferson City. He was active in the boards and associations affiliated with the Shiloh Christian Church Community. He was a member of St. Paulís Lutheran Church in California, Mo. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Raithel; and two daughters, Sue McDaniel of Columbia, Mo. and Carol Beth Irlenborn (Mitch) of Goodyear, Ariz. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at the California Nutrition Center in California, Mo. Visitation is scheduled at 1:00 p.m., with the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. People are also welcome to visit after the service when a light meal will be served. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be directed to one of the following: Shiloh Cemetery Association, California Nutrition Center or the St. Paulís Lutheran Church Radio Ministry.
