Mary L. Wakeland, age 82, of Linn, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Westphalia Hills. Mary was born November 11, 1929, in Linn, a daughter to the late Elmer and Amy (Turner) Rohlfing. Mary was a 1947 graduate of Southwest High School in St. Louis. On September 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to William Wakeland. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1965. Mary worked at Knollmeyer Hardware Store in Linn as her first job and during the 1970's, she was employed as an LPN. Mary then went to work for the Missouri Department of Revenue where she worked as a clerk before retiring in 1991. Mary was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed puzzle books, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, flowers and her Shih-Tzu, Missy. Survivors include: two sons, Richard and his wife Bonnie Wakeland of Taos, and Jim Wakeland of Vienna; two daughters, Beth Mertens and her husband John of Wardsville and Kathy Gove and her husband Howard of Linn; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Danny Herzing of Vienna. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: two daughters, Ruth Ann Phillips and Linda Starmer; and one great-grandchild, Jason Parker Wakeland. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Morton Chapel in Linn with Mary's cousin, Charles Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Linn Memorial Park Cemetery in Linn. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Morton Chapel, Linn, Mo.
