Virgle Farris

Virgle Farris, age 89, of the Enon community near Russellville, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. He was born near Russellville, Mo., on April 26, 1923, the son of Emil Farris and Ethel (Blank) Farris. On December 21, 1946, Virgle married the love of his life, Wanda Williams, at the home of Rev N.E. Williams in Eldon. Four children were born to this union. Virgle attended Valley Home School and graduated Russellville High School 1941. He attended aircraft school at Jefferson City Airport thru Junior College in Jefferson City. He went to St. Louis and spent nearly 40 years in aircraft industry, first at Curtiss Wright Aircraft then McDonnell Aircraft Company. Virgle was a supervisor at McDonnell for 26 years. He was active in the Fee Fee Baptist Church in St. Louis, serving as Sunday School Director, Deacon, and on many committees. After retirement in May 1978, Virgle and Wanda moved to the Enon community in 1980 and lived on the farm that had once belonged to Wanda's grandparents. He was active in Enon Baptist Church as Deacon and Sunday School Director. He was active in his church until about 80 years old. He loved the Enon Baptist Church where he was saved in 1938. The Lord, church and family were his love. He enjoyed retirement for 34 years. Virgle enjoyed his lovely family and was proud of his four children. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Farris of the home; a son, Ron (Jeanna) Farris, St. Louis; three daughters, Cheryl (Gary) West, Russellville, Judy (Joe) Lee, Melbourne, Florida and Karen (Jim) O'Farrell, Wentzville; a brother, Vernon Farris of Russellville; eight granchildren, Mark (Dianna) Farris, Amanda Farris, Jennifer (Scott) Call, Scott (Shanna) West, Julie West, Marlisa (Tony) Marlow, Jimmy Lee and Jessica Lee; 10 great- grandchildren, Jacob and Molly Farris, Sierra and Silas Call, Kaylee, Matthew and Lillian West, Rodney Lee and Alisa and Brielle Marlow; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rev. John Clifford Farris; a sister-in-law, Rosalie Williams; and a granddaughter, Susanne Marie Farris. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24, at the Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Digby officiating. Interment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Saturday, June 23, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville.
