Lavern Edith "Neda" Knernschield Grothoff, 85, of Jefferson City, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born on Sept. 4, 1926, in Cole County, the daughter of Otto Andrew and Hilda Philomena Hackman Knernschield. She graduated from St. Peter High School in 1944, and was united in marriage on June 18, 1949, in Jefferson City, to Bernard "Bernie" August Grothoff who preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2002. Before her marriage she was an executive secretary from 1944-1950 at International Shoe Company. Later, she was a homemaker while raising her family and then became a cook at Kinder-Care Day Care. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Ladies Sodality, Ave Maria Rosary Group, and a caller for the funeral committee. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her family and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include: six sons, James (Patricia) Grothoff, Wardsville, Steven (Ann) Grothoff, Jefferson City, Daniel (Carolynn) Grothoff, Groton, Conn., Gary (Linda) Grothoff, Jefferson City, Mark (Marla) Grothoff, Columbia, and Douglas (Cheri) Grothoff, New Bloomfield; one daughter, Karen (Ronald) Dumey, Jefferson City; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Francis Knernschield, Topeka, Kan.; and one sister, Rosemary Grothoff, Jefferson City. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Grothoff, a great-grandson, Michael Rea; and two sisters, Evelyn Antweiler, and Mildred Kiesling. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church, with the Rev. Donald J. Antweiler officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30. Memorials are suggested to Vogelweid Learning Center, 314 W.
