Albert G. DeBroeck

Mr. Albert G. DeBroeck, age 91 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. Albert was born on March 5, 1921, in Jefferson City, Mo., a son of Louis and Anna Dudenhoeffer DeBroeck. He was married on August 8, 1945, to Rose Marie Heidger, who preceded him in death on February 1, 2012. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Albert was a 1938 graduate of St. Peters High School and a graduate of IBM Tabulating Machine School. After his schooling, he briefly worked at Motor Carriers Service before going into the military. He served as a Tech-Sergeant for three and a half years in the Adjutant General Department at the United States Army Headquarters in the South Pacific during World War II. Albert was owner of DeBroeck's IGA and Big Star Markets in Jefferson City until his retirement in 1981. He was part owner of Fill & Wash Car Wash, Fair Drug Inc., Marct Real Estate Corporation, and Pizza Kwik, all located in Jefferson City. He also was part owner of Pizza Kwik and DeBroeck Liquors in California, Mo. He served on various committees under several Jefferson City Mayors (Christy, Hartsfield, and Gardner) and served in 1987 as co-chairman for the first of Jefferson City's capital improvement half-cent sales tax. Albert was an active member at Immaculate Conception Church serving as past president of Immaculate Conception Church Holy Name Society and charter member of the Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund. He was also a charter member and past president of Jefferson City Investment Club, the first Emeritus member of Jefferson City Country Club, and charter member of Meadow Lake Acres Country Club. Albert was a member of Helias Council 1054 Knights of Columbus, the Dan C. Coppin Chapter of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Evening Optimist, American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5, Western Catholic Union, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, Cole County Historical Society, and the Helias Booster Club. Survivors include: two sisters, Helen Vossen of Jefferson City, Mo. and Mary Ann Zika of Rich Fountain, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years just four months ago, Rose DeBroeck; two children, Richard Alan DeBroeck and Mary Rose DeBroeck; one sister, Rita Mae Vanderfeltz. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 1:30 until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2012, with a prayer service to be held in the Freeman Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with The Reverend Monsignor Gregory Higley officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Church with the Reverend Monsignor David Cox. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund or the charity of the donor's choice.
