Mrs. Mary M. Brenton, age 91 years, of Hartsburg, Mo., passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012, at Delmar Gardens in Overland Park, Kan. She was born on March 30, 1921 in Clearmont, Mo., the eldest daughter of the late Earl and Lois Linebaugh Long. She was married on September 9, 1940, in Fulton, Mo., to Bob B. Brenton, who preceded her in death on May 21, 2006. Mary attended Jefferson City High School. Mary and Bob traveled the Midwest and raised two children while he worked for the Rock Island Railroad. They returned home to central Missouri upon retirement in 1976. A homemaker, Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved gathering her family together for good food, cards and Scrabble with plenty of love and laughter for all. She was a member of Central United Church of Christ, Order of the Eastern Star Victoria Chapter #14, and the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Hartsburg, Mo. Survivors include: one son, Bob Brenton Jr. of Arvada, Colo.; one daughter, Susan Hunter and husband Larry of Olathe, Kan.; two brothers, Earl Long Jr. and wife Gunde of Seattle, Wash. and Larry Long and wife Ruth of Holts Summit, Mo.; one sister, Delores Sloan of Clearmont, Mo.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Brenton; three brothers, Eldred Long, Marvin Long and Charles Long; and one grandchild, Jacquelyn Yvonne Brenton. Visitation will be held at Central United Church of Christ from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2012, at Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Howard Ellis officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Parkinson's Disease Foundation or Central United Church of Christ.
