Lloyd C. Cordes

Mr. Lloyd C. Cordes, age 90 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Friday, July 27, 2012, at Adams Street Place. He was born on March 12, 1922, in Meade, Kan., the son of the late Barthold and Katherine Wurdeman Cordes. He was married on July 12, 1941, in Jefferson City, to Kathryn Major. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Lloyd attended Meade High School in Meade, Kan. He enlisted in the United States Army serving in World War II Pacific Theatre and the Korean War. He was employed as a Sergeant with the Jefferson City Police Department from 1953-1959, and then went to work as a Driver's Examiner with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 20 years, retiring on October 1, 1978. Lloyd was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church; the Masonic Lodge #43, A.F. & A.M; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003; and Disabled American Veterans, Oliver Buehrle #17. In his leisure time, Lloyd enjoyed auctioneering, showing horses, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include: his wife of 71 years, Kathryn Cordes, one daughter, Loy K. Wolters of Holts Summit, Mo.; two grandchildren, Barret J. Wolters and his wife Amy of Jefferson City, Mo., and Layne A. Wolters of Columbia, Mo.; and two great- grandchildren, Kayla S. Wolters and Lucas J. Wolters. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2012, with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Frank Whitney and the Reverend G. Dale Norfolk officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Summit Memorial Park Cemetery, Holts Summit, Mo.
