Betty Lou Kaps, 82, of Columbia, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at The Bluffs in Columbia. She was born February 3, 1930, in Houston, Missouri, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Josie E. (McKinney) Sigman. On September 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Parker. She was subsequently united in marriage to Donald W. Kaps in December 1970. Both preceded her in death. Betty was a 1947 graduate of Rolla High School. She was employed with the United Telephone Company from 1953 until 1986 when she retired. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church. Betty enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Meadow Lake Country Club. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was an American Red Cross Volunteer. Betty liked gardening and tending to her flowers and her yard. She also enjoyed ceramics and quilts. She is survived by two sons: Jerry Parker (wife Linda) of Columbia and Robert E. Parker (wife Melaney) of Belle; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Friends will be received from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow. Private graveside services will be held for the family at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to American Cancer Society.
