Edwin Garber Jr. (Veteran)

Edwin R. Garber Jr., age 85, of California, formerly of Tipton, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Moniteau Care Center in California. He was born May 8, 1926, near Versailles, a son of Edwin R. and Elizabeth Diener Garber. He was united in marriage on September 6, 1947, at Bethel Mennonite Church near Versailles, with Nadine Hofstetter, and she survives of the home. Ed owned and operated Garber Motors in Tipton for approximately 35 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, member of the Tipton Lions Club, Tipton Chamber of Commerce, the Tipton Country Club, and attended the Christian Church in Tipton. In addition to his wife, Nadine, he is survived by his daughter, Pam Hoskins and husband David of Jefferson City; four brothers, Raymond Garber and wife Susanna of Versailles, Robert Garber and wife Martha of Watha, N.C., Dennis Garber and wife Marvelene of Tipton, and Homer Garber and wife Twila of Versailles; five sisters, Ina Mae McCormick and husband George of Ireland, Lena Alexander and husband Dick of Promise City, Iowa, Velma Reiss of Demorest, Ga., Mary Gehman and husband Dan of Lewistown, Mont., and Rosie Fulks of Tipton; sisters-in-law, Kathy Garber of Sedalia, and Arletta Bolinger of Chillicothe; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman "Bud" Garber and Bill Garber; and two sisters, Violet Garber and Pauline Wulff. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 1, at the Bethel Mennonite Church with the Reverends Paul Wulff and Dave Zapf officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Bethel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
