Karen Kaye Cates, 60, of Holts Summit, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at her residence. She was born April 17, 1951, in Poplar Bluff, the daughter of Emil Orville and Elsa Larene Jackson McDowell. Her mother survives in Ellsinore. She was united in marriage on August 8, 1970, in Ellsinore, to Ronald Wayne Cates, who survives at the home. In her earlier years, Karen worked as a teacher's aide for the Ellsinore School District. After moving to Holts Summit she became a homemaker. She was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church, Holts Summit, and was a member of the Eastern Star. Karen's greatest love was her family. Survivors include: her husband; her mother; two children, Kimberly Cates Wiseman, Eureka, Mo. and Rhonda Lynn Cates (William) Koebel, Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Ryan Koebel, Lauren Koebel, William Koebel, Sophia Wiseman, Benjamin Wiseman; and two sisters, Janice Risby, Ellsinore, and Sharon Sue Turner, Ellsinore. She was preceded in death by her father. A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Shiloh Methodist Church, Holts Summit. Memorials are suggested to the Amanda K.
