Lee Murray (Veteran)

Lee Burtam Murray, 85, of California, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. Lee was born January 2, 1927, in Centertown, to Harvey and Annie Johnson Murray. He was married in 1949 to Eva May Pfeiffer, who preceded him in death in 1979. He was later married to Juanita Williams. On February 4, 1984, he was united in marriage to Vernie Lee Garrison, who survives at the home. Lee was a veteran of the Navy and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. Lee worked on the railroad and was most recently employed at Von Hoffmann Press until his retirement. He was a past president of the Central Missouri CB Radio Club and a member of the American Legion. He loved bluegrass music and he and his wife traveled to many festivals as long as his health permitted. He helped his wife babysit local children for many years in their home. Lee enjoyed cooking especially catfish and barbecue. Other survivors include one brother, John Murray of California; two sisters, Rosetta Horn of Centertown and Mayme Baumgartner of California; as well as several nieces and nephews. Lee was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas Murray; and five sisters, Lula Maier, Flossie Mathews, Laverne Wilson, Sarah Leonard and Ann Swillum. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Roll Funeral Home Chapel, California. Memorials are suggested to the family. Services under the direction of Roll Funeral Home, 211 S. Oak, California.
