Ida Massman

Ida J. Massman, age 86 of Meta, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Autumn Meadows Skilled Nursing Facility in Linn. Ida was born January 25, 1925, in Meta, a daughter to the late Liborious and Margaret (Bax) Hagenhoff. On June 27, 1945, Ida was united in marriage to Leo F. Massman in Meta. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1982. Ida started as a beautician in 1944, in Meta and worked for about 25 years. Then in 1960, she and her husband opened Massman Florist and Greenhouse in Meta and operated it for the next 35 years. Ida was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta where she sang in the choir and was a member of St Ann's Sodality. Ida was also a member of the Blue Army and Rosary Makers whose members were devoted to making rosaries that were then sent to third world countries. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Ida is survived by: three sons, Ambrose and his wife Theresa Massman of Lee's Summit, Andy Massman of Meta, and Mike and his wife Janet Massman of Meta; two daughters, Monica and her husband Jim Schmitz of Linn and Juliana and her husband Ralph Loaiza of Westphalia; one brother, Anton and his wife Lorene Hagenhoff of Largo, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, Glen and Greg Massman, Jeff, Tim, Steve and Joe Massman, Chris Massman, Michelle, Candace and Nicole Massman, Jessica Burcher, Nick Schmitz, Krista Peters, Matt Schmitz and Gabe and Toby Loaiza; 12 great-grandchildren, Emma and Ame Massman, Gabby and Devin Massman, Justin Massman, Rachael and Ashley Massman, Stuart and Leo Massman and Maggie Schmitz; one step-great-grandson, Mitchell Giroir; one daughter-in-law, Ginny Massman; one sister-in-law, Florentine Hagenhoff, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Ida was preceded in death by: one son, Gil Massman; eight brothers, Ben, Adolph, Leo, Joe, Paul, Ray, Fred and Frank Hagenhoff; and a great-grandson, Alex Massman. Visitation for Ida will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta. A Rosary Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Mark Porterfield as the Celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Cecilia Parish Cemetery at a later date.
