John H. Denman, age 83 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Heisinger Bluffs. John was born on October 5, 1928, in Decatur, Ill., the son of John M. and Martha E. Holt Denman. He was married on June 11, 1960, in Sedan, Kan., to Susan Storms. John was a 1946 graduate of the Missouri Military Academy. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1950 with a bachelor's degree. In 1957 he received a law degree from the University of Kansas. He served in the United States Army in the Special Services from 1951 until 1953. John was employed by the American Petroleum Institute as the Executive Director of the Missouri Oil Council until his retirement in 1993. Before his work with the Missouri Oil Council, John was an attorney with the Reader, Griffin & Dysart Law Firm in Kansas City. In 1962, he became an Assistant Attorney General in Missouri under Thomas F. Eagleton. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League; the Jefferson City Country Club; Meadow Lake Acres Country Club; and the Country Club of Naples, Fla. John always loved to follow and play sports. He was an accomplished golfer, winning numerous golf awards through the years, and also enjoyed playing tennis, bowling, racquetball, and cards. He was an avid reader. Survivors include: his wife of 51 years, Susan Denman; one daughter, Amy Elizabeth Denman of Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia; three sons, John Stewart Denman of Louisville, Ky., David Storms Denman of Chicago, Ill., and Thomas Holt Denman and his wife Kathy of Wilmette, Ill.; one sister, Mary Denman Simpson of Sedan, Kan.; three grandchildren, Celia Storms Denman, Ella Mary Denman, and John Storms Denman. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Paul Simpson. A memorial service will be held at a later time this spring in Jefferson City with interment in Sedan, Kan.
