Shirley Mae Chapman, 71, of Jefferson City, Mo., went to be home with the Lord on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. Shirley was born February 23, 1941, to Edward and Mabel Smith in Ashland, Mo. She married Kenneth Chapman on April 8, 1965, in Ashland. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and educator. She touched and influenced numerous lives for nearly 40 years. She was an elementary school teacher in Hallsville, New Bloomfield and Jefferson City. She was a gifted reading teacher and was honored to be a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma. She also taught children and youth as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and was a faithful prayer warrior. Survivors include her loving husband, Kenneth R. Chapman; two sons, Thomas Chapman and his wife Angela, and Kenneth Chapman and his wife Lori, all of Jefferson City; one brother, Charles Smith of Wright City; one sister, Hazel Balfour of Joplin, Mo.; five grandchildren, Allie, Cole, Elijah, Kirstin and Noah. She was preceded in death by Betty Gail. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012, 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., at Robinson Funeral Home in Ashland.
