Linus A. Hohm, 84, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Landmark Hospital, Columbia, Missouri. He was born May 17, 1928, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of the late John and Pauline (Kaiser) Hohm. On May 8, 1971 he was united in marriage in Jefferson City to Catherine Dudenhoeffer Stieferman, who preceded him in death on April 26, 1994. Linus served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953: he then enlisted and served in the Army Reserves. He was employed with Roark Aluminum. He also worked as manager of the American Legion Post 5 Club Room and as manager of the Knights of Columbus Helias Council Club Room. Linus was very active in the community, volunteering thousands of hours for local charity, church and civic groups, especially for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 5, Knights of Columbus Helias Council, the 40 & 8, Fraternal Order of Eagles 2693 and the Brazito-Honey Creek Lions Club. He and his brother John were known throughout the area for their "Hohm-made Cookin". In 2005 Linus was recognized as a "Person You Should Know" by KRCG TV-13 for all his volunteer work he did for the community. Throughout the years he enjoyed playing baseball, softball, bowling and pitching horseshoes. He was a hunter, fisherman and enjoyed going mushroom hunting. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by one step-daughter: Carolyn Schramm (husband Wayne) of Jefferson City; two step-sons: Dennis Stieferman (wife Tracy) of Jefferson City and Vincent Stieferman (wife Kathy) of Taos; two sisters: Genevieve Knaebel (husband Arthur) and Dolores Kliethermes both of Kansas City; one sister-in-law: Helen Hohm of Jefferson City; six step-grandchildren: Jennifer Penserum (husband Joe) of Jefferson City, Laura Allen (husband Jason) of Wardsville, Chad Stieferman (wife Kim) of Jefferson City, Rachel Schulte (husband Brian) of St. Thomas, Jamie Bax (husband Kyle) of Jefferson City and Andrew Schramm of Kansas City and nine step-great-grandchildren with another on the way. Along with his wife Catherine, Linus was preceded in death by two brothers: Norbert Hohm and John Hohm and brother-in-law: Hubert Kliethermes. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church, with Father Tony Viviano officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
