Mrs. Jacqueline C. "Jackie" Hearne, age 88 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at her home. Jackie was born on October 23, 1924 in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Hays and Eva E. O'Malley Wollenman. She was married on June 15, 1947, in Columbia, Mo., to John L. Hearne. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Jackie was a 1942 graduate of University High School in Columbia, a 1944 graduate of Christian College, and a 1946 graduate of the University of Missouri at Columbia. A homemaker, Jackie was also a teacher for the seventh and eighth grades in English and Social Studies at the Cole County R-1 at Russellville for 18 years prior to her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the Community Christian Church; a member of the Missouri State Teachers Assn.; a member and past president of the Demeter Garden Club; and a member of the Keith Worthington A.L.S. Assn. She also was a volunteer with Girl Scouts and the P.T.A. Jackie enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, traveling, but most importantly, spending time with her family. Despite her struggle with ALS for many, many years, she always maintained a cheerful disposition. Jackie was known for her gift of hospitality. Her friends knew it was always open house at The Hearne Home. All who knew her know that she showed God's love and God's grace without saying a word. She was altogether a lovely lady. Survivors include: her husband of 65 years, John L. Hearne; one son, Thomas H. Hearne and his wife LeeAnn of Springfield, Mo.; one daughter, Sarah Steelman and her husband David of Rolla, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Sam Steelman, Joe Steelman, Michael Steelman, Amanda Moore, Sarah Bennett and her husband Mike, Jonah Hearne and his wife Lana, Thomas Roach, Katie Roach, Andrew Hearne and his wife Jade, Jeffrey Hearne and his wife Brianna, and Hanna Zarifis and her husband Loren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John Jefferson Hearne in 1996; and two sisters, Beth Laatsch and Mary Lane. Visitation will be at the Community Christian Church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 20, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Thursday, December 20, 2012, at the Community Christian Church with the Reverend David Avery officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Community Christian Church or the Keith Worthington A.L.S. Assn.
