Mattie Katherine (Vaughn) Klepper, 96, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012, at her home. She was born April 10, 1916, in Mary's Home, the daughter of the late James and Mary Christina (Leuthen) Morgan. On July 11, 1933, she was united in marriage in Jefferson City to Ernest T. Vaughn, who preceded her in death on December 9, 1968. In August 1973, she was united in marriage to Harvey E. Klepper, who preceded her in death on November 13, 1995. Mattie attended grade school at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic School in Mary's Home. She was self-employed in the 1940's and 1950's making draperies and slipcovers. She was also a salesperson of cookware and china in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Mattie was a Tax Audit Analyst, Income Tax Division for the Missouri Department of Revenue from 1964 to May 1983. She loved music and played violin at Midnight Mass at the age of 11. While growing up, she played violin and guitar, and sang at country dances. She loved gardening and often had bountiful vegetable gardens. Mattie's favorites were the delicious tomatoes she grew. Her flower gardens were also very important to her, especially her rose bushes. During her retirement years, she participated in a weekly Prayer Hour in the Chapel of St. Peter's Church. She was also active in St. Ann's quilting group for several years. Mattie is survived by two sons: David James Vaughn of Ozark, Missouri, and Thomas Edward (Kathy) Vaughn of Columbia, Missouri; four daughters: Juanita Marie Etter of Jefferson City, Brenda Joyce (Roger) Bruner of Springfield, Missouri, Mary Katherine Vaughn of Columbia, Missouri, and Debbi Clarke of Rocheport, Missouri; her daughter-in-law: Joanne Vaughn of Lakewood, New Jersey; 24 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son: Ernest Thomas Vaughn Jr. on October 18, 2011. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 16, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. and a rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 17, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church, with Father Greg Meystrik officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W.
